Your Rights and Privacy as a Study Participant
5 min read
Everyone who takes part in a study holds a set of rights, and they are not fine print. The most important is informed consent: before you agree to anything, you are entitled to a clear description of what participation involves, how long it lasts, and what you will receive for your time. Consent given without that information is not really consent at all.
Your right to withdraw is equally plain. You may stop participating at any point, for any reason or none, and you do not owe anyone an explanation. Withdrawing does not affect your ability to be considered for other studies later.
Privacy is the other half of the picture. The details you share are handled with care and used for the purpose you provided them for. Dumas Labs does not sell personal information, and text messaging opt-in data and consent are never shared with third parties or affiliates for their own purposes.
Consent to receive text messages is separate from everything else, and it is optional. Agreeing to updates by text is never a condition of taking part, and you can withdraw that consent at any time by replying STOP to any message. Replying HELP will get you assistance.
It is also worth knowing what Dumas Labs is not. Dumas Labs is a clinical research organization that supports clinical studies. It is not a clinic or medical provider and does not provide medical advice. Clinical questions belong with the board-certified professionals carrying out a study, or with your own healthcare provider.
If anything about how your information is handled is unclear, ask. A straightforward answer is something you are entitled to, and a well-run study will give you one without hesitation.
